Al Rubin spent the war in Europe where he was a second lieutenant in the 4th Cavalry of the US Army. He was injured four times over the course of his service. He was awarded three Purple Hearts and the Silver Star. His experience on D-Day was chronicled in Cornelius Ryan’s classic The Longest Day.
